Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Classes this year are named after inspirational sports people.

Gareth Thomas: Tackling Stigma | Bournemouth University

Gareth Thomas class is taught by Mrs Sharif, Mrs Wallace and Mrs Bottrell.

Gareth Thomas CBE is a famous Welsh international rugby player. He was the first Welsh player to achieve 100 caps and is one of the top try scorers in Welsh rugby history. We think that Gareth Thomas is inspirational, not only because of his sporting achievements, but also for his courage and bravery of becoming the first openly gay professional rugby union player.

Eat like an athlete - Jessica Ennis-Hill - BBC Good Food

Jessica Ennis class is taught by Miss Oakes, Mrs Wallace, Mrs Zrar and Ms Desai.

Dame Jessica Ennis (DBE) is a British retired track and field athlete. Throughout her career she has won a gold medal at the Olympics and three world championships. We think Jessica is inspirational because in the lead-up to the 2008 Olympics she suffered a career ending injury and had to pull out. Despite this she continued to work hard and a year later she won her first world championship.

Welcome back to school! We look forward to working hard this term and making outstanding progress.

Here are the home-school links for this year. You will find information about our in-class learning here.

Autumn 1

Homework and Reading

Reading

Please read with your child every day for at least 15 minutes and sign the reading record to show that this has been completed. In order to limit the number of times a book travels to different homes, we will be sending 2 books out at a time, once a week. Children will also have the opportunity to borrow a book from the class library to read over the weekend,

Please encourage your child to complete their homework.

This will be sent home every Friday with a set piece of homework to be completed and handed in the following Monday.

Weekly homework will include: spellings, times tables, Maths and English.

Spellings

Spellings will be sent out every Friday and are to be learnt for our spelling test the following Wednesday.

Times Tables

In year 3, your child will be able to access Times Table Rockstars for additional support with their mental recall.

Your child has been provided with a username and password so they can access this at home. We encourage your child to complete the challenges alongside weekly homework. Times tables will also be tested weekly.

PE

PE for each class is on a Tuesday afternoon and a Thursday morning.

Please make sure your child has their PE kit with them. This includes plain jogging bottoms or shorts, a plain t-shirt or long sleeved top and trainers or pumps. Please send your child to school in PE kit ONLY on Thursday morning as PE is their first lesson. They WILL need uniform to change into after PE. On Tuesday, PE kit may be worn home as their PE lesson is at the end of the day.

Indoor Shoes

Indoor shoes are an important part of our uniform!

Please send your child with a pair of pumps or other suitable shoes to change into when inside. This protects carpets, keeps indoors clean and gives their feet a chance to dry if their shoes are wet.

Thank you!
